The Laboratory of Applied Evolutionary Biology, Department of Medical Microbiology, Academic Medical Center (AMC), University of Amsterdam invites applications for an Assistant or Associate Professor level position in bacterial evolution. Level of appointment will depend on qualifications. The position can be taken up immediately.
The Laboratory of Applied Evolutionary Biology (LAEB) is a recent initiative within the Department of Medical Microbiology of the AMC that focuses on using computational tools and approaches from evolutionary biology to synthesize the increasing wealth of pathogen data collected at AMC as well as nationally and internationally. The LAEB closely collaborates with experimental and clinical researchers throughout the Department of Medical Microbiology and AMC. As part of the growth of the Laboratory, we are seeking a colleague to lead our work in bacterial evolution, host-pathogen interaction, and antimicrobial resistance.
In brief, the Department of Medical Microbiology comprises clinical and research laboratories in bacteriology, virology and parasitology (up to BSL3), and also houses the Netherlands Reference Laboratory for Bacterial Meningitis and the Netherlands/OIE/FAO/WHO Reference Laboratory for Leptospirosis. AMC is one of the largest tertiary medical centers in Europe with clinical and research foci on infectious diseases and has cutting-edge sequencing and computational facilities.
You are an ambitious researcher with a strong background in bacterial evolution relevant to host-pathogen interaction and/or antimicrobial resistance with an emphasis on computational research. You have a PhD in evolutionary biology, bioinformatics, computational biology, computer science, mathematics, biophysics, or a related field. You have a track record of publishing in internationally recognized peer-reviewed journals and of attracting independent research funding. You will be expected to develop a cutting-edge research program and to collaborate with colleagues at the LAEB, as well as other researchers at the Department of Medical Microbiology, at the AMC, and beyond.
We offer you ample opportunities for development, deepening and widening, extra training and a place to grow! Working in the AMC means working in an inspiring and professional environment where development is stimulated in every respect.
