What you are going to do

Our experimental hematology/immunology research group focus on (immune)biology and treatment of B-cell malignancies with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) as main disease serving as a B-cell malignancy model. Hematologist prof. Arnon Kater and molecular biologist prof. Eric Eldering have set up a research group that performs both pre-clinical and clinical studies. These efforts have positioned the research group as the foremost clinical and translational CLL Center in the Netherlands and one of the major centers on CLL in Europe. The research lines focus on 3 main subjects: Functional genomics, interaction between CLL and the tumor microenvironment (TME), including novel targeted therapies and more recently, crosstalk between the adaptive immune system and CLL. For the third research-line (adaptive immune system), we offer a postdoc position. The aim of the project is to better understand acquired T cell dysfunction in CLL in order to improve efficacy of autologous cellular immunotherapeutic therapies, especially chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) therapy. The project builds on recent novel data from our group on the role of altered T cell metabolism and T cell function and will involve both in vitro studies using primary patient material as well as in vivo mouse models. For this particular project an intense collaboration exists between our group and the group of Jos Melenhorst/Carl June at Upenn, USA. An additional relatively new topic is neo-epitope discovery in hematological and solid malignancies.

What we expect from you

Candidates should have a PhD and proven in-depth knowledge and experience in mouse and human immunology. In addition, knowledge on immune-metabolism and practical experience with common used techniques on these topics (e.g. extensive flowcytometry, mouse models, seahorse) is essential. An good track record of publications and a strong scientific curiosity is highly desired. Excellent spoken and written English skills are required. We seek a highly motivated scientist who enjoys an interdisciplinary environment. You are able to work independently but also as part of a team, and need good communication skills.

Where you are going to work

Within the department of Hematology / Oncology and experimental immunology several international top research groups are accommodated which allows valuable cross-talks between groups. Our group currently comprises 2 post-docs, 10 PhD students and 5 technicians. We have a steady flow of high-impact research papers and are involved in many international collaborations.

What we offer you

We offer you ample opportunity for development, deepening and broadening, additional training and a place to grow! Working at AMR means working in an inspiring and professional environment where development is encouraged in every respect.
